Another word of appreciation from someone who has had trouble visualizing. Your explanation was clear and intriguing, and one I'd never heard before. Thank you for opening up possibilities for me that I had mistakenly discarded.

@Winston Nice of you to mention Jung. I'd read his accounts of talking to Philamon years ago and lost them in the recesses of my mind. I wonder now if his thoughts on active imagination were a subconscious influence on me as I developed my own method. Something for me to ponder. In any event, I'm glad the reframing helped you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

You make me think in new and intriguing ways...The dolphin was flabbergastingly spontaneous. I had literally just started to imagine myself floating on a raft. It was impossibly shallow for a dolphin which is why I was so shocked and I consciously told myself to relax and enjoy and not question. Then there were 3 and then I logicized them away but I held it for about 30 seconds.

Off and on for years I have been trying to do what the Jungians call "active Imagination." The basic instruction is always, Hold an image in your mind and wait for it to change. The illustration that goes with the instruction is Jung's talking to Philamon, a spirit guide who started talking to him. So, I tried imagining someone who, if I held the image long enough, would start talking to me. Never worked. However, your instruction to imagine a scene and then let it fill itself out worked instantly. It seems so obvious. I am smiling with success even as I wonder why I hadn't thought of it. Sometimes it just takes someone to re-frame something for it to suddenly make sense and work. Thank you for doing that for me. And kudos--well done.

@Allison Isn't it fun to see what turns up when we loosen up and allow things to happen? Such confirmation let's you know that the nonphysical can be as surprisingly unpredictable as the physical world--if you let it. And of course, unpredictable events are one of the hallmark characteristics that we use to define reality. If you didn't actively create the dolphin then where did it come from? Something fun to think about.

I read your article and tried it. A dolphin passively appeared for me at the start of my meditation. He wanted to be petted like a dog. I was startled and delighted. It works!

@Marilyn and @SueEllen So glad you enjoyed this article. When you use all of your nonphysical senses your inner experiences can become as rich as those in physical reality. And when you begin to use active and passive arising in combination that's what makes things really interesting because as Forrest Gump says "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." But you can be sure it'll be filled with sweet experiences.

i LOVE IT. I'm pretty good at visualizing but I never thought of eating nonphysical chocolates or anything other food. What a good way to lose weight. Thank you so much for this very informative newsletter.
